AUGUST 31, 2021 - The main title sequence and theme music for the upcoming animated series Star Trek: Prodigy debuted Tuesday at the Television Critics Association virtual summer press tour. 

The opening sequence was revealed during the Star Trek: Prodigy panel, with numerous cast members and series creators Kevin and Dan Hageman present. Featuring a score from Kelvin-timeline composer Michael Giacchino, the video is a stunning display of the animation audiences can expect to see in the series.

Giacchino’s Prodigy theme is bold, “enterprising”, and full of adventure. “I am excited that I had the opportunity to write the main theme for Kevin and Dan’s latest project, and as always am thrilled to be a part of the Star Trek family,” Giacchino said in a statement. He went on to praise fellow composer Nami Melumad -the first female composer for the franchise. “I’m especially looking forward to everyone hearing the incredible work of composer Nami Melumad, who will take the reins of scoring the episodes,” Giacchino said. “Not only is she extremely talented, she is a true Star Trek fan.”

On the visual side of things, Prodigy’s opening sequence doesn’t disappoint. There are plenty of shots of the U.S.S. Protostar - the abandoned Starfleet vessel commandeered by several runaway teens - flying through space. With its modular nacelles and retractable third nacelle, the Protostar can be seen flipping, spinning and whizzing by whole star systems, as well as larger-than-life representations of the series’ characters.

Along with a brand new title theme and animation, fans also got their first glimpse of the series’ main villains, Drednok and The Diviner, voiced by Jimmi Simpson (Westworld) and John Noble (The Lord of the Rings), respectively.

While there’s been no official word as to when the series will premiere, IMDb currently has the premiere date listed as Thursday, October 21st. If that’s true, audiences only have to wait a few more weeks to see much more of Star Trek: Prodigy. To see the main title sequence for yourself, visit the Paramount+ channel on YouTube.
