MARCH 24, 2022 - Paramount has released the official trailer for the updated cinematic masterpiece Star Trek: The Motion Picture - The Director’s Edition, coming to Paramount+ on First Contact Day, April 5th. The trailer was published Thursday on StarTrek.com.

In 2001, David C. Fein produced The Director’s Edition of the 1979 Robert Wise directed film. The original film was an instant hit, garnering Academy Award nominations for Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, and Best Music, Original Score. The latest update has been enhanced to 4K Ultra HD, with Dolby Vision HDR tuning and a Dolby Atmos soundtrack. After six long months of intensive remastering, the film is ready.

“I couldn’t be prouder and more thrilled to have completed the film in 4K,” said Fein.  “Paramount offered unprecedented access to the original elements and exceptional support and the results are stunning.  Utilizing the latest discoveries and innovations of modern film production, The Director’s Edition delivers so much more today than was previously possible.  It’s an adventure you’ll never forget!”

While Paramount+ subscribers will have the opportunity to stream The Director’s Edition, it won’t be your only chance to see the film. The new, remastered version will be in theaters May 22nd, 23rd and 25th. Tickets for those showings will go on sale April 8th from Fathom Events.
