YEAR'S END: A Look Back At 2023's Top STAR TREK Memes
DECEMBER 29, 2023 - Hello and welcome to the event of the year: The ULTIMATE meme review! That’s right, to end 2023 with a bang I’ve decided to go through all the memes from this year and rank my top 10!
10. Emotion on a Scale of Tilly to Tuvok

This is a really good quality meme. It is straight to the point while also being incredibly relatable and a bit goofy. I too experience emotion on a scale of Tuvok to Tilly and sometimes I am on both ends simultaneously. This meme also makes me think about what would happen if Tilly and Tuvok were to ever meet. Part of me thinks they would be good friends though I cannot explain it.
9. The Invasion of the Enterprise-D

One fact about me is that I absolutely LOVE Star Wars and Darth Vadar/Anakin Skywalker is my favorite character. Another fact about me is that TNG is probably my favorite Star Trek show (it’s tied with DISCO). All that is to say, I feel as though this meme was made for me and others like me, combining two of our favorite things into a fun and silly meme.
8. Illustrating the stark Contrast between TOS and SNW, a Meme

I quite enjoy this meme. It really does show how much the character of Spock has grown with the times since his conception in the 1960s. Though I honestly wasn’t the biggest fan of “Subspace Rhapsody” when it first came out I have to say it has grown on me and now I love the concept of Spock singing about math and I would love to see more of it.
7. A Pretty Decent Summary of Picard Season 3

I think this is a great use of a meme format that I honestly tend to think is a bit overused and has lost a lot of its meaning. However, in this meme, it is used perfectly. I’m thoroughly convinced this exact scene played out in the Picard season 3 writing room. Semi-related: Brent Spiner’s performance in Picard season 3 is some of the best acting I’ve ever seen and I think he deserves so much credit!
6. A Canonical Representation of Leonard McCoy’s Grave

This meme was part of my spooky meme review and I think it fit perfectly! It’s funny and witty and 100% accurate. The simplicity of this meme really sells it. I absolutely love this meme. I couldn’t remember if they said in TOS or TAS why Bones is called Bones so I googled it and apparently, it's a reference to the phrase "sawbones," which was used to describe 19th-century surgeons. I’m not sure how plausible that is but it’s a cool idea so I’d accept it.
5. O’Brien’s Worst Nightmare

I like this meme a lot, despite how disturbing it is. The more you look at this photo the worse it gets and I think that’s great. I think that I too would be a bit scared of that homemade transporter, or any homemade transporter for that matter.
4. Spock’s Second Favorite Snack

I love puns and this meme is the ultimate pun. It’s perfect in every way. The T falling off the pringles can somehow makes it even funnier. It’s just lodged in there (just like T’Pring is in Spock’s life) and I think it’s great.
3. Sandwich Spock?

This meme format is one of my favorites. It started as a subway meme and has evolved and now people hijack it for their own uses, sometimes completely ignoring all of the original words. I love this one because, for one I love all memes about Sarek and Spock’s relationship, but also because I love the idea that Spock is a human-Vulcan sandwich.
2. 01000100 01100001 01110100 01100001

I love Data and I love this meme. I like to imagine that when Data gets angry he starts speaking in his native language: binary. The first time I saw this meme I wasn’t able to translate the binary. I don’t know why I couldn’t but this time I could. So Data is saying “bit.ly/3HYIxkt” which links to an article about TNG leaving netflix. I don’t know why I saw this meme in 2023 but I 100% agree with Data. I am very upset that TNG left Netflix.
Now finally… the moment you’ve all been waiting for… my favorite Star Trek meme of 2023 is…..
*drum roll*
1. Meme Review Monday immortalized in a Meme

I love this meme. I relate to Harry Mudd on a personal level purely because of this meme. This is exactly how I feel every time I share my collection of Star Trek memes with you all. I love making the Meme Review Mondays, it’s my favorite part of every weekend and I’m so happy you all love them too.
I hope you enjoyed the final meme review of 2023! Thank you so much for all of your support! I’ll see you next year!!
