AUGUST 24, 2021 - The second season of Star Trek: Lower Decks is well underway, with the first two episodes streaming now on Paramount+. The series’ third episode, “We’ll Always Have Tom Paris”, drops this Thursday. A number of images from the episode have been made available by the network, showing fans not only a familiar locale, but that Tom Paris is much more than a commemorative plate.

In the season two trailer, the show revealed that Robert Duncan McNeill would reprise his Star Trek: Voyager role as Lieutenant Tom Paris via a talking commemorative plate, carried by Ensign Boimler. The images from “We’ll Always Have Tom Paris” reveal much more, showing that Paris is very much a living human being.

Other images from the episode include a scene outside of Quark’s, and Ensign Tendi playing dom-jot against a Nausicaan, reminiscent of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Tapestry”, in which Picard is stabbed after a rigged game turns into a fight. Audiences can also expect to see some Caitians on screen - the same species as Cerritos Chief Medical Officer Dr. T’Ana. Ensign Tendi brings Mariner along for a special mission in a shuttlecraft hastily renamed the “Sequoia”, which seems to be a pretty clear callback to the runabouts from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

No matter what happens, “We’ll Always Have Tom Paris” should be another fun ride through the world of Star Trek. The series is available to stream now on Paramount+.
