JULY 6, 2022 - “Twice in a  Lifetime”, the latest episode of Star Trek homage The Orville: New Horizons, will debut Thursday on Hulu. We’ve got a sneak peek at the episode in a brief trailer, released Tuesday on the network’s YouTube channel. Earlier this week, Collider published a new interview with series creator Seth MacFarlane, shedding light on the creative process behind The Orville: New Horizons - and why it is such a closely guarded secret.

This week, the crew must rescue Gordon from a distant yet familiar world. Once again, the crew of the Orville finds themselves embroiled in combat with the Kaylon. In the trailer, a warp core breach is in progress and it’s a race against the clock.

Speaking with Collider, Seth MacFarlane opened up about expanding the series with longer episodes, adding “New Horizons” to the show’s title for the third season, and the enigmatic but powerful episode trailers released each week.

Renaming the series The Orville: New Horizons is an idea MacFarlane credits to Disney Chairman of Entertainment Content Dana Walden. “That's my boss over at Disney,” he said, “who I've worked with and been friends with for a long time. That was her idea. And I thought it was kind of cool because it's not a reboot, it's a continuation, but it was just enough to tell the audience that we're expanding a little bit.”

Audiences don’t get to see much in weekly episode trailers. That level of mystery is by design.

According to MacFarlane, “The challenge really is how much to give away.” Not a fan of peeking ahead, he told Collider, “I'm somebody who watches a show and wants to know nothing about what I'm about to see [..] I don't want to read an episode summary. I don't want to see a trailer. I want to be completely surprised. And so I tend to employ that a little bit when we decide what we're going to give away.”
