Michael Chabon has started reading children’s stories on YouTube and Instagram, under the title, “Story Time with Michael Chabon”. Last Wednesday, Chabon posted the first story, “The Astonishing Secret of Awesome Man” (which he wrote himself). Since then he’s followed it up with “Strega Nona Meets Her Match” by Tomie dePaola, “Harry the Dirty Dog” by Gene Zion, “The Story of Ferdinand” by Munro Leaf, and yesterday, “Now Everybody Really Hates Me” by Jane Read Martin.

Chabon delivers each story as though he’s speaking to a child, but his enthusiastic delivery, even showing the pages of the books as he reads, makes the stories compelling even for grown-ups. Chabon clearly takes a tremendous amount of delight in reading the stories, and it shines through beautifully in the videos.

You can watch the stories for yourself on Chabon’s YouTube or Instagram pages, and of course, you can watch some of his more grown-up storytelling on Star Trek: Picard, now streaming on CBS All Access.
