Star Trek: Short Treks “Children of Mars” trailer shows two young girls uniting amid disaster

A new trailer for the upcoming Star Trek: Short Treks episode “Children of Mars” was released last week by CBS All Access. In the 30-second spot, we get our best look yet at the latest and last of this year’s Short Treks, which Alex Kurtzman has said “will give you a sense of some background that happened to Jean-Luc, 15 years before we enter into [Star Trek: Picard].”

In the trailer, we are introduced to two young girls, Kima and Lil, who take turns bullying each other until some kind of disaster strikes. According to the trailer’s description, “12-year-old classmates Kima and Lil find themselves at odds with each other on a day that will change their lives forever.”

TrekMovie helpfully captured a number of screenshots from the trailer, in which you can clearly see the exterior of the school that Kima and Lil attend, the appearance of an older, Vulcan teacher, and a closeup of Kima’s face, showing markings that look to be from an alien species we haven’t seen before.

“Children of Mars” stars Ilamaria Ebrahim as Kima and Sadie Munroe as Lil. It will be available to stream this Thursday, January 9th, on CBS All Access.
