AUGUST 22, 2021 - With Kate Mulgrew returning to her role as Kathryn Janeway for the upcoming Nickelodeon animated series Star Trek: Prodigy, fans were excited to learn last week that Star Trek: Voyager’s Robert Beltran will also be lending his voice to the project.

TrekNews.net first reported Beltran’s involvement after Beltran himself broke the news at the 55-Year Mission convention’s Voyager panel. During the panel, Beltran told the audience, “I’m working on this voiceover animation thing that Kate [Mulgrew] is doing — Star Trek: Prodigy.”

This falls in line with a tweet from series creators the Hageman brothers the day before, which said, “We see Chakotay is trending, and we’re totally down for that.” The post excited many fans at the prospect of Chakotay (and ultimately, Beltran) appearing on Prodigy. Beltran’s own admission at the convention the following day confirmed the hype.

Earlier this summer, the series main cast was announced, but the addition of Beltran is the first time any additional voices have been announced for the new series. We have not confirmed if Beltran will be joining the cast permanently or simply lending his voice as a guest actor.

It’s also not clear whether or not Beltran will be reprising his role as Chakotay in Prodigy. Beltran wasn’t specific on what his role was, simply that he was “working on” the series. However, the Hagemans’ tweet specifically named Chakotay, so it’s reasonable to assume the character will appear.

For now, that’s all we know, but you can be sure we’ll bring you all of the details of Beltran’s involvement as they are made available. Star Trek: Prodigy is set to premiere on Paramount+ and Nickelodeon later this year.
