Star Trek’s Sir Patrick Stewart is writing a memoir

Sir Patrick Stewart is writing a memoir. A piece in The Hollywood Reporter last week said that Gallery Books, the publisher of said upcoming memoir, announced on June 30th that they had reached a deal with the Star Trek: Picard actor, who turns 80 on July 13th. THR said that a title and release date would be determined later.

In a statement, Stewart noted that while he has considered writing a memoir for several years, he never had the opportunity, due to work commitments - until now. “Today there are no demands, nor is there a prediction when there might be,” he said.

In the memoir, Stewart is expected to cover his acting career, from Shakespeare to Star Trek and beyond. Gallery Books also said that he will also address his difficult childhood growing up with an abusive father and poverty in the North of England, as well as “his lifelong political advocacy and ongoing charity work.”

Stewart himself appears to be enjoying the process of writing. He said, “I have a beautiful study in our home in Los Angeles, sunny and peaceful. I am 80 in a little over two weeks’ time. I have just treated myself to a gorgeous office chair. And...I have the time. But most important, I am loving what I am doing, even though I never thought I would or could.”

Gallery Books is a division of Simon & Schuster, publisher of hundreds of Star Trek novels and currently (reportedly) for sale by ViacomCBS.
